Here are my steps for troubleshooting this laptop with the backlight failure. If you know for sure that your problem is related to the backlight lamp and not to the inverter board, you can try replacing the backlight lamp. Well I think the plug only enters /fits in one way as the cable comes from the screen bezel... I thought I may have damaged the inverter, so I bought a new one and installed it.

The only issue left is the screen which I'm affraid to change but I don't know if the suction cup trick will definitely work to eliminate the whiter areas. Keep in mind though it MIGHT also be the inverter (probably even easier to fix).
