MKV is the new container for DivX video, but PS3 has only once upgraded its DivX support and is still a long way away from having fill DivX certification (the system I am using a ONKYO - HT-RC360. Maybe I tried right now.... So, if you have the opportunity, I'd say to go wired every time. If your PS3 can not play AVI files, it must be because the imported AVI files contain other video and audio codecs. Is there a work around to get the sound to work? (I don't want to install tversity, i tried it a few weeks ago and didn't enjoy my experience with it).
Any ps3 "streaming software" you get is really just transcoding the audio for you on the fly. Use PS3 Media Server. Has anyone set this up successfully as a work around? On one system it was the hard drive I was streaming to the ps3 from, it was an old ide drive and wasnt running at its best and was slowing things
