As I vaguely recall, from like 10 years when the Spell Check was a newly added feature in Firefox, the license used by the person who created the dictionary may determine Spellcheck is only installed by default on US dictionary so even though the update APPEARS to update your language /dictionary, you have to manually separately download the spellchecker? If no luck, type about:config in the address bar.
